What Does Network Marketing Cost?

Network Marketing
What Does It Cost?

There's really just two costs involved in your network marketing business.  The costs are product and marketing. The company handles everything else, .i.e.:

Paperwork

Inventory

Shipping

And on and on.

Our job as an network marketing distributor has never been easier. This is principally because communication costs have never been lower. Your job as an network marketer is to communicate product benefits and share the business. When I first started doing this over 15 years ago, I was the guy with the $48.00 commission check and the $1,800 phone bill. When I began in networking, a good long distance rate was over 20 cents a minute. If you talked to a guy for 5 minutes, it cost you a buck. Then, you still had to mail him something, it was pre-internet, usually a product sample and/or a distributor application. After that, you had to play phone tag. It was horrible.

Now, there are a lot of really good flat rate phone services. That means telephone costs are totally contained. When you're communicating with a prospect, you can both be looking at the same web site at the same time. He can see all the product literature and join on-line. That means you've eliminated the mailing costs and reduced the expense and effort required to follow up. The tools are so good now that I'll occasionally do a "One Call Close". That means the first time I talk to the prospect, he'll join my networking business. That is exhilarating.

With the tools currently available to the professional networker, most of the investment necessary to build your networking business can be clearly defined and strictly contained.

Best of all, these tools are available to anyone. At this juncture in our industries history, anyone who is willing to do the work has a good chance at doing well in a home based network marketing business.

Product And Promotion

The Investment In Your Network Marketing Business

Product - Investment $75 - $200/Month:

There are two kinds of Network Marketing Distributors:

Consuming Distributors

Business Building Distributors

Business Building Distributor - If you're a Business Building Distributor, you must use your companies products and you must use them regularly. An network marketing distributor that intends to build a business must go on monthly auto-ship. Auto-ship is a mechanism whereby you have a standing order with your networking company for an amount of product that you'll personally consume in a month.

Typically, there is no company requirement for you to initiate a standing auto-ship order. This is a requirement I impose on myself and my personally sponsored business building distributors. If my personally sponsored distributors want my help to build their business, they must be on auto-ship. That's how I assure I'm compensated. If you intend to make living in network marketing you should make the same demand of yourself and those that join your business. I don't work for free. You shouldn't either.

If your people are not on auto-ship, they're not paying for your time.  If they're interested in the network marketing company as a business opportunity and are not willing to use the product regularly, they should find a company with a product they like.

Consuming Distributor - Having said that, I welcome consuming distributors. A consuming distributor is a person who registers as a distributor for a network marketing company with no intention of building a business. They simply want access to the company's products. They become distributors because it gives them direct access to the company and distributor discounts on purchases. They make occasional purchases and may or may not be on auto-ship. They're very low maintenance. Aside from the initial effort of introducing them to your companies product, you may never speak to them again. Your company's administrative staff takes their order and assures they receive their product.

I don't require a consuming distributor to be on auto-ship because a consuming distributor makes no demands on my time.

Promotion - Investment $75 - $300/month

There are a number of sources for leads, training and support. At Affinity Marketing we recommend a 20 year old Ohio firm called Leader's Club. Leader's has support packages ranging from $50.00 to $500/month. Contingent upon the time you have available as well how quickly you want to begin earning in your networking business, you can select a promotional package that fits your needs.

When selecting a package, bear in mind that you're in this for the long haul. The key to success in any network marketing business is consistency over time. To increase your chances of success, you'll adopt an investment posture permitting you sustain your efforts over an extended period of time. Always assume the worst and be pleasantly surprised when you start earning money quickly.

Leader's permits you to achieve what I call:

The Power Of Proximity

Their best package provides daily leads produced within the last 24 hours. When I call these leads, they remember making the request for information. Contacting them close to the time of their request provides a seamless communications stream, i.e., they remember asking for the information and are likely to be responsive to your proposal. These leads, coupled with a prompt response on your part, can dramatically increase your close rate. In network marketing, that's the name of the game.

Leader's also provides you with an excellent source of training for you and your people. It's the perfect supplement for information you receive at Affinity Marketing.

Through Leaders, you're in a position to serve the entire network marketing industry. In your prospecting efforts, you're going to speak to people who are already in an networking company. With Leaders, you deliver the absolute best pre-qualified leads and a 20 year old system providing lead generation, training, support and technological resources permitting them to build the network marketing business they prefer. Leader's is the best advertising investment available to the network marketing industry.

You maximize your income when you maximize your service to others. With Leaders, you're directly and aggressively building your networking business and permitting others to do the same, regardless of the company they represent.

The investment to build the average network marketing business is about $250/month. That money is going for product and promotion. You may pay a little less or a little more depending on your company's auto-ship packages and the promotional investment you select, however, $250.00/month is about average.

Don't forget the time involved. Ten hours per week is the absolute minimum. Fifteen to twenty hours per week is much more realistic. Most of this is going to be phone time. The key is consistent action. You've got to consistently talk to new people that are interested in acquiring and building a network marketing business.

The best way to assure you're taking sufficient consistent action is to select one of Leader's 5 or 10 Daily Leads packages. Each day, you'll get five or ten new respondents that inquired about a home based business the previous day. Every day, you'll make 5 or 10 new phone calls and contact those requiring follow-up. It's manageable. It's effective. It's direct. If you commit to it, you've got a good chance of earning a great deal of money in the networking company you prefer.
